Methods for Creating & Building Flash

In this session we’ll try and cover as many methods for creating and building a Flash project as possible and debate their pros and cons. If you know an obscure method for creating/building a SWF, please bring the info along.

About Luke Bayes and Luke’s Presentation

About Luke:

Since early 1998, Luke Bayes has worked with companies such as America Online, Microsoft, Applied Materials, Entertainment Arts, Hewlett Packard, PowerBar, RockShox, Levi’s, Macromedia and Adobe to deliver an expansive set of distributed applications, business tools, and instructional content.

He is the coauthor of the Certified Macromedia Flash MX Developer Study Guide and two Macromedia Flash Developer Certification Exams. He is a frequent speaker at industry events, served for more than 6 years on the steering committee of the San Francisco Macromedia User’s Forum and is cofounder of the San Francisco Design Patterns Study Group. Luke Bayes also co-founded AsUnit and Project Sprouts, both open source tools for Flash Application Developers.

Luke has been consulting with Ali Mills since 2003 architecting and implementing visually compelling, data driven, application frameworks for a variety of clients. During this time, they have focused intently on design patterns, code reuse, and agile processes in the context of ActionScript development.

Following are some links to more information about Luke Bayes:

Presentation Description:

Sprouts is an open-source, cross-platform project generation and configuration tool for ActionScript 2, ActionScript 3, Adobe AIR and Flex projects. This presentation will introduce you to this project and show how it may help you and your team be more productive.

Sprouts has the following features:

  • Provides easily customized and shared project and code generators that get you up and running instantly and keeps you and your team moving quickly.
  • Installs any publicly available ActionScript library directly into your project by name and version (including Adobe corelib, AsUnit, PureMVC, Cairngorm and many more).
  • Instantly install and configure all of the tools you need to get started with ActionScript 2, ActionScript 3 or Flex development on Windows, OS X and Linux (including the Flex SDK, MTASC, SWFMill, and the Adobe Flash Player).
  • Provides simple, intuitive automated build tasks to help you build your project anytime from any computer and integrate your project with existing continuous integration tools.

This presentation will begin with a quick demo of the initial experience and then cover each of the features in more depth.
